Steam curing can enhance the strength and density of UHPC, and its core mechanism lies in three physicochemical effects: "accelerating hydration reactions, optimizing pore structure, and promoting product transformation." Based on 28 years of steam curing practice and laboratory microanalysis (scanning electron microscopy, mercury intrusion porosimetry), Qinglong Group reveals its essence: in a saturated steam environment at 80-90°C, the dissolution rate of cement particles increases 10-fold, C-S-H gel production increases by 30%, and porosity drops from 8-10% under natural curing to below 5%; meanwhile, high temperature promotes the conversion of calcium hydroxide into more stable C-S-H, reducing defects in the interfacial transition zone. In the Hainan International Convention and Exhibition Center UHPC roof project, steam-cured panels (80°C × 24h) achieved 20% higher compressive strength than naturally cured panels (reaching 150MPa), with a 50% reduction in the chloride ion diffusion coefficient. Steam curing is not simply heating—it is a project of reshaping the microstructure.
In high-temperature environments, water molecules gain kinetic energy and penetrate cementitious particles more effectively, allowing hydration reactions to complete 70% within 24 hours (natural curing takes 7 days). Qinglong Group's intelligent curing kiln precisely controls the heating rate (≤15°C/h), constant temperature duration (20-24h), and cooling curve, avoiding thermal stress cracks and enabling 1-day strength to exceed 50MPa, making rapid demolding possible.
Steam curing promotes the pozzolanic reaction of fine particles (such as silica fume), filling capillary pores of 10-50nm and reducing the proportion of harmful pores (>50nm) from 15% to below 5%. The pores become not only fewer but also more tortuous and closed, forming a "molecular sieve" effect that blocks corrosive media. After steam curing, the median pore diameter of Qinglong UHPC can reach 0.01μm, far exceeding the 0.05μm of natural curing.
High temperature reduces calcium hydroxide enrichment in the aggregate-paste interfacial zone, decreasing the interface thickness from 20-30μm to within 10μm and increasing bond strength by 25%. The fiber-matrix interface is also strengthened, with higher fiber pull-out work and improved toughness. Through steam curing, Qinglong Group enables the components of UHPC to "fuse" into a whole, delivering more homogeneous performance.
Steam curing is the key process for UHPC to achieve ultra-high performance. Qinglong Group invests in intelligent curing systems to ensure the outstanding intrinsic quality of every UHPC panel, providing solid assurance for major projects.
