Does GRC Meet Fire Performance Standards? Safety Standards and Qinglong Group's Fire Verification

The fire resistance of GRC is one of its outstanding advantages as a building material. Certified testing has confirmed that its main components (cement, sand, and glass fibre) are all non-combustible materials, and the finished product achieves a Class A combustion performance rating (non-combustibility), meeting the highest standard of the national Classification for Burning Behaviour of Building Materials and Products (GB8624-2012). Non-combustibility Stems from Inorganic Materials

The main raw materials of GRC are cement and quartz sand, both of which are inorganic non-combustible materials. The reinforcing material, alkali-resistant glass fibre, has a melting point above 1000°C, far higher than the temperature at typical fire scenes. Therefore, GRC products will not burn in a fire and will not become a pathway for fire spread, fundamentally ensuring the fire safety of buildings.

Good Integrity at High Temperatures with No Toxic Smoke

Under high temperatures, the cement stone in GRC will lose its crystalline water, but the overall skeleton structure can still be maintained for a certain period of time. Compared with some organic decorative materials that melt, drip, and produce large amounts of toxic smoke in fires, GRC's physical properties may degrade at high temperatures, but it will not melt or drip, nor does it release toxic and harmful gases, buying valuable time for personnel evacuation and firefighting rescue.

Fire Resistance Rating Meets Code Requirements

As an external building envelope component, fire integrity is of critical importance. Qinglong Group conducted standard fire resistance tests on GRC panels of different thicknesses. The results showed that 15mm thick GRC panels can achieve fire integrity of over 1 hour, and 20mm thick panels over 1.5 hours. Through reasonable structural design (such as increasing panel thickness and adding backing), the requirements of the codes for building envelopes of different fire resistance ratings can be fully met.
