The construction difficulty of UHPC is significantly higher than that of ordinary concrete—an inevitable challenge posed by its ultra-high performance. The difficulty is not insurmountable, but rather lies in the near-rigorous demands placed on the entire process of "raw material precision, mixing technique, pouring method, and curing conditions." As a leader in UHPC engineering practice, Qinglong Group, drawing on successful experience from complex projects such as the Wuhan Han Show Theatre and the Hainan International Convention and Exhibition Center, has established a standardized construction method system. In summary, the "difficulty" of UHPC construction lies in its "high sensitivity" and "low fault tolerance"—oversight at any stage can lead to a substantial decline in performance or even failure; its "ease," however, lies in the fact that once a standardized workflow is established and strictly implemented, construction quality becomes highly predictable and reproducible.
UHPC has an extremely low water-binder ratio (typically 0.18–0.22) and is highly sensitive to water content—an error exceeding 1% can severely affect flowability. Its large total amount of cementitious materials means the temperature rise caused by mixing friction can accelerate cement hydration, affecting workability and early-age performance. Therefore, high-precision metering equipment and efficient forced-action mixers must be used. Qinglong Group employs fully automatic mixing stations in its precast plants, with programmed control of temperature, humidity, feeding sequence, mixing speed, and time—something difficult to achieve with manual on-site mixing. This is the primary manifestation of the construction difficulty.
UHPC is highly viscous; although its self-leveling capability is good, improper vibration can easily introduce internal defects due to entrapped air bubbles or fiber clumping. For thin-walled complex components, special processes such as compression molding, spraying, or vacuum-assisted forming are commonly used instead of simple vibration. This places high demands on mold design and operator skills. In the production of double-curved panels, Qinglong Group uses robotic spraying and vacuum degassing processes, ensuring uniform fiber distribution and internal densification.
Ordinary concrete can be cured naturally, whereas UHPC requires timely, precise curing to develop strength and prevent cracking. Immediately after demolding, moisture-retention curing must be performed (e.g., covering with wet cloth or water spraying), and steam curing or hot water curing may be applied to rapidly enhance early strength. Improper control of curing temperature and humidity can lead to surface dusting, substandard strength, or thermal cracking.
Therefore, UHPC construction is highly difficult but manageable and controllable. One of Qinglong Group's core advantages is transforming laboratory-level precision requirements into a mature construction system capable of large-scale replication through the standardization of equipment, processes, and management, while providing clients with end-to-end technical guidance from mix design to curing regimes—thereby converting "difficulty" into "certainty."
