New GRC materials, represented by translucent GRC, high-toughness ultra-thin GRC, and thermal-insulation composite GRC, are breaking through the boundaries of traditional GRC, evolving from a single structural decorative material into multifunctional, intelligent, high-performance composite materials, with extremely broad application prospects. Qinglong Group's continued investment in cutting-edge R&D is turning these possibilities into real-world projects.
1. Translucent GRC: A revolutionary material for the art of light and shadow. By adjusting the mix proportions (e.g., using special aggregates or highly transparent cementitious materials) or embedding light-guiding fibers during precasting, GRC can achieve light transmittance ranging from 10% to 40%. Its application prospects include: ◦Building facades: Creating “glowing walls”—solid walls by day that display rich patterns of light and shadow under interior lighting at night, ideal for creating nighttime scenery for commercial complexes and cultural venues. ◦Interior spaces: Used for translucent partitions, luminous ceilings, and decorative feature walls, creating a soft, hazy, and richly textured lighting environment. ◦Signage and art installations: Producing self-illuminating signs and sculptures with strong artistic expressiveness. In a high-end commercial project in Shanghai, the entrance light-and-shadow wall we created with translucent GRC has become a popular photo spot.
2. High-toughness ultra-thin GRC: Extreme lightness and complex forms. Through the use of high-performance fibers (such as PBO and carbon fiber) and nano-modification technology, ultra-thin GRC has been developed with a thickness of less than 10mm, flexural strength exceeding 20MPa, and extremely high fracture energy. This enables applications in: ◦Large lightweight curved surfaces: Creating indoor and outdoor artistic forms of enormous volume yet extremely light weight, reducing structural loads. ◦Wearable building skins: Used for facade renovation of older buildings, draping gently over the original structure like “clothing.” ◦Complex precast components: Producing components with an extremely high level of detail that previously could only be achieved with GRG, but suitable for outdoor use.
3. Multifunctional composite GRC: From components to systems. Combining GRC with other functional layers to form integrated systems is the main development direction. ◦GRC insulation-decorative integrated panels: Already in mature application, they are the mainstream product for building energy-efficiency retrofits. ◦Photovoltaic GRC panels: Integrating flexible thin-film solar cells onto the GRC substrate allows the building skin to generate electricity while providing decoration. ◦Smart-responsive GRC: Exploring the embedding of sensing elements or phase-change materials into the material to give it intelligent features such as temperature regulation and self-sensing of conditions.
In summary, new GRC materials are developing toward being “lighter, stronger, smarter, and more multifunctional.” Their application prospects lie not only in replacing traditional materials but, more importantly, in opening up entirely new design languages and architectural possibilities, making them an indispensable component of future green, intelligent buildings. Qinglong Group will continue to lead this wave of innovation.
