The uniqueness of the glass fiber mesh laying process for double-curved GRC panels stems from the complexity of stress distribution on curved surfaces, requiring three key techniques—"directional laying, layered optimization, and interface treatment"—to address the challenges posed by curved surfaces. Based on 28 years of experience in curved-surface GRC production, Qinglong Group summarized special process requirements during the production of 9,000 double-curved panels for the Wuhan Han Show Theater: glass fiber mesh in curved areas must be laid directionally along the principal stress direction (deviation angle ≤15°), the spacing of double mesh layers controlled at 1/3-1/4 of the panel thickness, and reinforcing layers added in areas with abrupt curvature changes. Through robotic directional spraying, fiber distribution uniformity along the normal direction of curved surfaces reaches ≥92%, with flexural strength 25% higher than random distribution. In the wave-shaped roof project of the Hainan International Convention and Exhibition Center, this directional laying technology enabled a more rational stress distribution in double-curved panels under typhoon loads, with no cracks after 10 years of use.
Curved-surface stress analysis is the foundation of mesh laying. Double-curved panels experience tensile-compressive stress transitions in regions of different curvature, requiring finite element analysis to determine principal stress directions. Qinglong Group employs digital image correlation (DIC) technology to measure curved-surface strain distribution and optimize laying schemes. In the double-curved curtain wall of the Nanning New Media Center, laying density was increased in high-stress zones based on stress contour maps (fiber volume ratio increased to 4%) and appropriately reduced in low-stress zones (2.5%), achieving optimized material allocation.
Laying processes ensure performance realization. Flexible glass fiber mesh (elongation at break ≥3%) is used for curved-surface laying, with pre-impregnation treatment enhancing bond strength with the matrix. We have developed a robotic mesh-laying machine dedicated to curved surfaces, which automatically adjusts laying pressure to adapt to curvature changes. In an art center project in Shenzhen, combining orthogonal laying (0°/90°) with angle laying (±45°) balanced the mechanical properties of panels in all directions, increasing torsional stiffness by 30%.
Quality control ensures the final result. After laying, each panel undergoes X-ray inspection of fiber distribution, with digital records established. Qinglong Group's curved-surface fiber control technology makes complex-shaped GRC both aesthetically pleasing and structurally safe.
