The recoating cycle for waterproof coatings (such as fluorocarbon coatings, silane impregnating agents, etc.) on the surface of exterior wall GRC components depends on three factors: the coating's own weathering resistance lifespan, the intensity of local climate erosion, and the current condition of the coating—typically ranging from 8 to 15 years. Through tracking a large number of engineering case studies and comparisons with laboratory accelerated aging tests, Qinglong Group has established a scientific model for coating life prediction and recoating decision-making. For high-quality fluorocarbon coatings, the effective protection period can reach 10-12 years in ordinary inland cities; in coastal areas with high ultraviolet exposure and high salt spray, the period is shortened to 8-10 years; for penetrating protective materials such as silane, the hydrophobic effect can last 5-8 years, which must be judged based on on-site water drip test results.
The decision on whether to recoat cannot be based on time alone; it must rely on scientific on-site assessment. Qinglong Group's decision-making process includes: 1. Visual inspection: checking whether the coating shows chalking, discoloration, peeling, or flaking; 2. Performance testing: conducting a water absorption test (sprinkle water on the panel surface and observe the shape of the water droplets—if they spread out rather than displaying the lotus effect, the hydrophobicity has failed), or using the pull-off method to test coating adhesion; 3. Comprehensive analysis: combining the coating's years in service and the building's importance. In a seaside hotel project in Sanya, Hainan, after 9 years of service, testing of the fluorocarbon coating showed a color difference ΔE greater than 5 and localized chalking, so we recommended a complete recoating.
The recoating application itself is also a key technology. The old coating, loose dust, and contaminants must be thoroughly removed, and the GRC substrate must undergo repair treatment to ensure the new coating has a sound adhesion foundation. Qinglong Group uses high-pressure water jets (with adjustable pressure) combined with environmentally friendly cleaning agents for substrate treatment, and applies matching primers and topcoats of the same brand and series to ensure the compatibility and long-term performance of the coating system. In a renovation project in Shenzhen, professional recoating gave the building's facade a completely renewed appearance, with the protection period recalculated from scratch. The coating is the “skin” of GRC exterior walls, and regular, scientific “skincare” is essential.
