UHPC cornice components offer a significant service life advantage over GRC components. Under normal use and maintenance conditions, UHPC has a design life of over 50 years, while high-quality GRC typically lasts 30-40 years—a gap of 10-20 years. This difference stems from the intrinsic properties of the materials: UHPC has a compressive strength of 120-180MPa, a chloride ion diffusion coefficient ≤2.0×10⁻¹² m²/s, and an annual carbonation depth increase ≤0.1mm; GRC has a compressive strength of 40-80MPa, a chloride ion diffusion coefficient ≤1.5×10⁻¹¹ m²/s, and an annual carbonation depth increase of 0.2-0.3mm. Based on long-term tracking data from comparative projects such as the Wuhan Hanxiu Theater (UHPC cornices retaining 95% strength after 8 years of use) and the Hainan International Convention and Exhibition Center (GRC cornices retaining 85% strength after 10 years of use), Qinglong Group has verified UHPC's comprehensive durability advantages in impermeability, carbonation resistance, and freeze-thaw resistance. Especially in coastal environments with high salt mist, UHPC cornice components have a service life approximately 40% longer than GRC, with whole-life-cycle costs reduced by 25%.
UHPC forms a dense matrix through maximum packing density theory (porosity ≤5%) and fiber reinforcement (steel fiber content 2-3%), effectively blocking corrosive media. GRC relies on glass fiber reinforcement, but its cement matrix has higher porosity (8-12%), making the fibers susceptible to alkali attack under long-term exposure. Qinglong Group's tests show that in accelerated aging experiments (300 freeze-thaw cycles), UHPC strength loss is ≤5%, while GRC strength loss is 10-15%. In coastal areas, UHPC cornices require no major repairs after 20 years of use, whereas GRC typically needs partial replacement after about 15 years.
In hot and humid regions, UHPC's low permeability gives it 5-10 times GRC's resistance to chloride ion attack. In the Hainan International Convention and Exhibition Center project, Qinglong Group conducted 10 years of follow-up monitoring on UHPC and GRC cornice components installed at the same time: UHPC carbonation depth was 0.8mm, GRC carbonation depth was 2.5mm; the UHPC surface showed no cracking, while the GRC developed micro-cracks. This difference is even more pronounced in harsh environments, making UHPC better suited for the long-term use of landmark buildings.
UHPC cornices require maintenance every 10-15 years, while GRC needs maintenance every 5-8 years. Qinglong Group provides a 20-year warranty for UHPC components, while GRC warranties typically last 10-15 years. Through scientific material selection, owners can significantly reduce long-term maintenance costs. Choosing UHPC cornices is an investment in a building's century-long future.
