UHPC's impermeability is 2-3 orders of magnitude higher than that of ordinary C80 concrete. Specifically, the chloride ion diffusion coefficient drops from 1.0×10⁻¹²m²/s in C80 concrete to 0.5-2.0×10⁻¹²m²/s in UHPC, and water absorption decreases from 3-5% to 1-2%. Through 28 years of materials R&D, Qinglong Group has elevated UHPC's impermeability to a new level: the chloride ion diffusion coefficient remains stable below 1.5×10⁻¹²m²/s, and the impermeability grade exceeds P20, achieving a nearly watertight state. In the coastal project of the Hainan International Convention and Exhibition Center, after 10 years of exposure to a high-salt-spray environment, the penetration depth of UHPC roof panels was only 0.5mm, while C80 concrete components from the same period had already shown obvious corrosion, confirming UHPC's outstanding impermeability.
The impermeability advantage stems from the microstructure. Through maximum density packing design, UHPC reduces porosity to below 5%, with the most probable pore size distribution below 50nm, effectively blocking moisture and ion migration. In contrast, C80 concrete typically has a porosity of 10-15% with interconnected capillary channels. Our scanning electron microscopy shows that Qinglong's UHPC matrix is dense and defect-free, which is the fundamental guarantee of its impermeability.
There are various testing methods for impermeability. We adopt multiple verification methods, including the Rapid Chloride Migration (RCM) test, water absorption test, and impermeability grade test. Results show that UHPC's resistance to chloride ion penetration is 100 times that of C80 concrete, and its water penetration resistance is improved by more than 5 times. This advantage is particularly important in harsh environments such as coastal areas and chemical plants.
Qinglong Group brings impermeability to the highest level through raw material selection, mix proportion optimization, and process control. We recommend prioritizing UHPC for projects with high durability requirements, as its whole-life-cycle cost advantage is significant.
