What Is the Service Life of GRC? In-Depth Analysis of Influencing Factors and Longevity Tips

High-quality GRC has a design service life of over 50 years under normal use and maintenance conditions. Actual engineering cases show that some GRC components have been safely in use for more than 30 years while still performing well. Based on 28 years of material R&D and engineering practice, Qinglong Group believes that the service life of GRC mainly depends on five factors: material quality, design level, installation quality, service environment, and maintenance condition. Qinglong GRC uses high-grade low-alkali cement and high-zirconia alkali-resistant glass fiber (ZrO₂ content ≥16%), and reduces porosity by adding active admixtures such as silica fume, keeping the chloride ion diffusion coefficient below 2.0×10⁻¹² m²/s. Accelerated aging tests show that our GRC retains over 90% of its strength after 300 freeze-thaw cycles, with a predicted 50-year carbonation depth of less than 5mm. Reasonable structural design avoids stress concentration, a scientific connection system accommodates thermal deformation, and standardized installation ensures even load distribution. Qinglong Group optimizes joint design through BIM technology and adopts a three-dimensionally adjustable connection system to keep installation tolerances within ±2mm. Environmental factors and maintenance are vital. GRC lasts longest in mild environments and requires enhanced protection in coastal salt-spray or industrially polluted environments. Qinglong Group customizes protection solutions for different environments—for example, silane impregnation treatment for coastal projects and additional protective coatings for projects in industrial zones. Regular maintenance can effectively extend service life; our recommended maintenance schedule is: simple cleaning once a quarter, seal inspection once a year, and comprehensive inspection once every five years.
