The price comparison between GRC and other decorative materials must be based on full life-cycle cost analysis, not just on the initial purchase price. Based on 28 years of project data, Qinglong Group has established a complete cost comparison model. In terms of initial investment, GRC (300–800 RMB/m²) is higher than real stone paint (80–150 RMB/m²), but roughly on par with natural stone (400–1,000 RMB/m²) and lower than aluminum panels (600–1,200 RMB/m²). However, over a 50-year life cycle, GRC has the lowest total cost.
The advantages over natural stone are evident. GRC weighs only 1/4 as much as stone, saving 20% in structural costs; installation efficiency is 50% higher, shortening the construction schedule and saving time costs; and maintenance costs are only 1/3 of those for stone. In a Third Front construction project in Panzhihua, Sichuan, choosing GRC stone-look panels saved 15% of the total construction cost compared with natural stone, while achieving a better artistic effect.
Compared with metal panels, each has its own advantages. Aluminum panels are more cost-effective for standardized flat-surface projects, but the fabrication costs for complex shapes are high. GRC offers clear cost advantages for artistic expressions such as curved surfaces and reliefs. In a commercial complex project in Shenzhen, the cost of a GRC double-curved curtain wall was 20% lower than the aluminum panel alternative, while achieving a richer facade effect.
Compared with coating materials, GRC requires a higher initial investment, but its service life of over 50 years eliminates the cost of periodic repainting. Calculations by Qinglong Group show that the total cost of GRC breaks even with real stone paint within 20 years, and the advantage continues to widen thereafter. We believe that GRC is one of the most cost-effective choices for mid-to-high-end projects.
