The strength performance of GRC (glass fibre reinforced cement) is one of its core advantages as a building material. Its ultimate flexural strength typically ranges from 18-45 MPa, and its compressive strength can reach 50-80 MPa. These values are not only far higher than those of ordinary cement products, but thanks to its outstanding toughness and crack resistance, GRC also exhibits mechanical performance that surpasses traditional concrete in actual engineering. Through 28 years of R&D and practice, Qinglong Group has continuously optimized the mix proportion and spraying process of GRC, steadily raising its flexural strength to an industry-leading level. The key lies in the three-dimensional random distribution of alkali-resistant chopped glass fibres within the cement matrix, which forms an efficient stress transfer and dispersion network. Unlike brittle materials, when GRC is subjected to loads, the fibres effectively prevent the propagation of micro-cracks, giving it a distinctive "pseudo-ductile" failure characteristic, meaning that under ultimate load it does not fail in sudden brittle fracture, but instead undergoes large deformation and multiple micro-cracks. This characteristic is crucial for seismic and impact-resistant structures.
The strength of GRC is a composite concept, encompassing flexural strength, tensile strength, impact strength and toughness. Its flexural strength is a key indicator of its load-bearing capacity as panels or thin-shell components. Through advanced spraying technology, Qinglong Group ensures that the fibres are distributed in the matrix with optimal orientation and content (typically a volume fraction of 3%-5%), thereby maximizing reinforcement efficiency. In addition, by using low-alkalinity sulphoaluminate cement, high-zirconia alkali-resistant glass fibres, and polymer modification, we have further improved the material's long-term strength retention, ensuring that its strength does not show significant deterioration under harsh environments such as humid heat and freeze-thaw cycles.
In engineering applications, the high-strength characteristics of GRC enable designs with large panel surfaces, thin sections and complex shapes. For example, in GRC curtain wall cladding applications, its high flexural strength allows a 2 cm thick panel to achieve large spans exceeding 1.5 metres while maintaining excellent flatness, offering greater design freedom for building facades. In structural-decorative integrated components, GRC not only serves as a decorative layer; its own strength can also share part of the structural load, optimizing the overall structural design. The many large landmark projects that Qinglong Group has participated in, such as large curved curtain walls and cantilevered decorative components, have all verified the reliable strength and stability of GRC materials under the combined action of long-term loads, wind loads and thermal stress.
