New GRC materials represented by translucent GRC mark a major leap in GRC technology from traditional structural decorative materials toward functionality, intelligence, and artistry. Qinglong Group has carried out years of R&D in this field. We believe translucent GRC has broad application prospects, and its core value lies in creating the possibility of a four-in-one integration of "structure, decoration, daylighting, and art," opening up an entirely new creative space for architecture and interior design.
The principle and performance characteristics of translucent GRC. It does not make the cement matrix itself translucent; rather, through precise material design and production processes, high-transmittance light-guiding fibers (such as resin optical fiber bundles) are embedded in the GRC panel, or specific internal microstructure networks are formed, allowing light to enter from one face and diffuse evenly and softly from the other. Its light transmittance typically ranges between 10% and 30%, producing a hazy and poetic quality of light, while retaining GRC's advantages of strong plasticity, high strength, fire resistance, and durability.
Rich application scenarios are being developed. On building facades, translucent GRC can create "media facades" that appear as solid walls by day and transform into giant glowing art installations at night, appearing softer and more refined than LED screens. In interior spaces, it can be used for illuminated feature walls, artistic partitions, and translucent ceilings, creating a unique atmosphere of light and shadow. In high-end commercial spaces and art venues, its customized textures and patterns can combine perfectly with lighting design to create stunning visual effects. It can even be used in signage systems, achieving a seamless transition between daytime and nighttime imagery.
Technical challenges and future trends. At present, translucent GRC is relatively costly and places extremely demanding requirements on design and production processes, requiring precise control over the distribution density and orientation of the optical fibers. Future development will focus on: 1) improving light transmittance efficiency and uniformity; 2) developing integrated solutions with intelligent lighting systems (such as variable color temperature and variable patterns); 3) exploring composites with other new materials (such as self-cleaning coatings and photovoltaic films) to develop integrated panels that combine "power generation, light transmission, and decoration." Qinglong Group believes that as the technology matures and costs are optimized, translucent GRC will gradually extend from its current use in demonstration and landmark projects to a wider range of commercial and public spaces, becoming an important vehicle for future building skins and interior light-and-shadow art.
