Achieving texture in biomimetic GRC forms is a cutting-edge technology that translates natural biological textures into architectural language, involving multiple stages of digital capture, mold transfer, and surface treatment. In the coral reef wall project at Chimelong Ocean Kingdom in Zhuhai, Qinglong Group employed high-precision 3D scanning (accuracy 0.1mm), silicone mold replication (hardness Shore A 20-30), and mineral pigment penetration technology to achieve over 95% fidelity in GRC surface textures, with tactile roughness of Ra=3.2-6.3μm, perfectly reproducing the lively texture of natural organisms.
Texture digitization is the foundation. Blue-light scanners capture the micro-geometry of natural samples with a point cloud density of ≥10 million points per square meter. In an eco-pavilion project in Hainan, Qinglong Group processed coral sample data to generate a seamlessly spliceable digital texture library. Mold making uses food-grade silicone with good flowability, capable of capturing details down to 0.2mm. Surface treatment applies a multi-layer coloring process: a base color is sprayed first, then the raised areas are dry-brushed to enhance depth. These techniques bring biomimetic GRC vividly to life.
Durability must also be considered. The raised texture areas are prone to damage and require local reinforcement. Qinglong Group incorporates short-cut carbon fibers to improve wear resistance, achieving a service life of over 30 years. Biomimetic GRC expands the boundaries of dialogue between architecture and nature.
