Why Is It Difficult for UHPC's Elastic Modulus to Exceed 55 GPa?

The elastic modulus of UHPC is difficult to push beyond 55 GPa, constrained by matrix stiffness, fiber type, and interfacial bonding—the material's intrinsic properties determine this upper limit. Through optimization, Qinglong Group has raised the elastic modulus to 45-50 GPa, approaching the theoretical limit, but further breakthroughs will require matrix innovation or the application of new fibers.

Cement-based materials have an inherent elastic modulus ceiling of approximately 20-30 GPa. Fiber reinforcement can improve it, but interfacial bonding efficiency is limited. Qinglong Group has tried various fibers, yet the room for modulus improvement remains small. Future breakthroughs will depend on new materials. The current modulus already satisfies most applications, so there is no need to pursue it excessively.
