The selection of fibers for UHPC requires weighing metal fibers (such as steel fibers) against non-metallic fibers (such as synthetic fibers) according to project requirements. Factors in the trade-off include strength requirements, durability, cost, and construction conditions. Based on comparisons across multiple engineering projects, Qinglong Group believes that metal fibers are more suitable for high-strength structural applications, while non-metallic fibers offer advantages in corrosion resistance and lightweight performance; performance is optimized through scientific selection.
Metal fibers have high strength and a large elastic modulus, providing significant reinforcement. Steel fibers have a tensile strength ≥2000MPa and are suitable for load-bearing components. However, they have high density and may rust, requiring protection. Non-metallic fibers, such as polypropylene fibers, are corrosion-resistant and low in density, but have a low elastic modulus. Qinglong Group selects fibers according to the application scenario; for example, corrosion-resistant fibers are chosen for coastal projects. Cost is also a factor—metal fibers are more expensive but offer superior performance. Reasonable trade-offs achieve the best results.
