UHPC stands for Ultra-High Performance Concrete, the third generation of cement-based materials developed after ordinary concrete and high-performance concrete. Its core definition must be comprehensively determined through multiple key indicators such as strength, durability, toughness, and density. As Qinglong Group, with 28 years of deep expertise in the UHPC field, we—based on application data from major national projects such as the Wuhan Han Show Theatre and the Hainan International Convention and Exhibition Center—believe that quality UHPC should simultaneously meet core indicators including compressive strength ≥120MPa, flexural strength ≥15MPa, chloride ion diffusion coefficient ≤2.0×10⁻¹²m²/s, and fracture energy ≥20,000J/m². This exceptional performance stems from optimized material composition and process innovation, enabling UHPC to play an irreplaceable role in high-end buildings and infrastructure.
Compressive strength is the primary defining indicator of UHPC. Quality UHPC typically achieves a compressive strength of 120-180MPa, 1.5-2 times that of C80 high-performance concrete and 4-6 times that of ordinary C30 concrete. In the Shenzhen Yirui Biotechnology Building project, Qinglong Group raised the UHPC compressive strength to over 150MPa by optimizing the mix ratio and steam curing, keeping the coefficient of variation within 5%. This high-strength characteristic allows for reduced member cross-sections and lightweight design. For example, a 20mm thick UHPC panel can replace a 40mm thick stone curtain wall, reducing loads by more than 50% and significantly optimizing structural economics.
Durability indicators determine material lifespan. UHPC's chloride ion diffusion coefficient is ≤2.0×10⁻¹²m²/s, 1/100 to 1/200 that of ordinary concrete, with an annual carbonation depth growth rate of ≤0.1mm. In the roofing project of the Hainan International Convention and Exhibition Center, Qinglong Group's tracking data show that UHPC panels after 5 years of use had a carbonation depth of only 0.3mm, with a predicted lifespan of over 50 years. Toughness indicators are equally critical: with fracture energy ≥20,000J/m², more than 100 times that of ordinary concrete, the material exhibits noticeable plastic deformation before failure, avoiding brittle failure and improving structural safety.
Density is the foundation of performance. Through tight packing design, porosity is reduced to 2%-5% and water absorption to ≤6%. Qinglong Group optimizes particle grading by incorporating ultra-fine powders such as silica fume, making the UHPC matrix as dense as stone. These indicators collectively define UHPC's high-performance characteristics, providing material support for architectural innovation. When selecting UHPC, these key indicators should be comprehensively evaluated to ensure the material meets project requirements.
