The fading rate of colored UHPC exterior walls is significantly affected by climatic conditions, and targeted protective measures must be adopted based on regional characteristics. Based on tracking data from projects nationwide, Qinglong Group holds that under standard conditions, the annual fading rate ΔE of high-quality colored UHPC should be ≤0.5, but in areas with strong ultraviolet radiation, high humidity, or heavy pollution, the fading rate may rise to ΔE=1.0-1.5. Through material optimization and surface treatment, the impact of climate can be minimized.
Fading occurs more quickly in areas with strong ultraviolet radiation. In coastal or plateau regions, intense ultraviolet radiation accelerates pigment decomposition. In its Hainan project, Qinglong Group adopted ultraviolet absorbers (benzotriazole type), reducing the fading rate by 40%. Surface treatments such as fluorocarbon coatings, with an ultraviolet blocking rate of ≥95%, effectively protect the base color. Carry out regular inspection and maintenance, test color difference every 5 years, and make timely repairs.
In high-humidity areas, attention should be paid to mold prevention. Humid environments are prone to mold growth, which affects appearance. In its South China projects, Qinglong Group added mold inhibitors, achieving a surface contact angle of ≥100° to reduce the adhesion of contaminants. Acid rain areas require special protection; acid-resistant coatings are used to slow down fading. Through these measures, colored UHPC can be kept like new for the long term.
