Resisting freeze-thaw damage is key to ensuring the durability of UHPC exterior walls in severe cold regions. Based on project experience in Northeast and Northwest China, Qinglong Group holds that quality UHPC should withstand more than 300 freeze-thaw cycles with mass loss ≤5%. Through three measures—material modification, structural design, and protective treatment—it ensures safe use for over 50 years in -30℃ environments.
Material modification improves frost resistance. Adding air-entraining agents (air content 4%-6%) forms uniform, closed air bubbles that buffer frost-heave pressure. Qinglong Group optimizes aggregate gradation in its mix formulas to reduce water absorption. Antifreeze agents lower the freezing point and improve frost resistance. Accelerated tests show that treated UHPC withstands up to 500 freeze-thaw cycles while maintaining stable performance. These measures enhance resistance from within the material itself.
Structural design avoids water retention. Slopes ensure smooth drainage, and joints are tightly sealed. Qinglong Group installs drainage cavities in its projects, with water guide plates directing water flow. Sharp corners, recesses, and other water-prone areas are avoided. Continuous insulation layers reduce temperature gradients. Freeze-thaw factors are considered at the design stage, and the preventive measures prove highly effective.
Protective treatment enhances surface resistance. Hydrophobic treatment achieves a contact angle ≥100°, reducing water absorption. Regular inspection and maintenance ensure timely repair of damage. Through systematic solutions, Qinglong Group has successfully met the challenges of severe cold, with outstanding project performance.
