Differences in Connection Methods for GRC Panels of Different Curvatures

Connection methods for GRC panels of different curvatures must be designed differentially according to their surface characteristics. Based on 28 years of engineering practice, Qinglong Group classifies GRC panels by curvature into three categories—single-curvature panels (R≥1000mm), double-curvature panels (R≥500mm), and complex curved panels (R＜500mm)—each adopting a different connection system to ensure safe and reliable connections.

Single-curvature panel connections are relatively simple, mainly addressing thermal deformation. Qinglong Group uses slotted-hole connectors that allow ±5mm displacement along the surface direction and ±3mm adjustment in the normal direction. In the Shenzhen Pingshan High-Tech Zone Comprehensive Service Center project, the spacing of single-curvature panel connection points was controlled within 600mm, with joint widths of 12-15mm, effectively releasing thermal stress. The connectors are made of stainless steel with a corrosion resistance grade of no less than 316, ensuring a 50-year service life.

Double-curvature panel connections must accommodate multi-directional deformation. A spherical hinge connection system is adopted, allowing three rotational degrees of freedom. For the Hainan International Convention and Exhibition Center project, Qinglong Group developed omnidirectional adjustable supports with an adjustment range of ±10mm and a rotation angle of ±5°. The connection point layout was optimized through finite element analysis to avoid stress concentration. For double-curvature panels with large curvature, the density of connection points is increased and the spacing reduced to 400mm to improve system stability.

Complex curved panels require customized connection solutions. A three-dimensionally adjustable connection system is adopted, with each connection point offering 6 degrees of freedom. For the Wuhan Han Show Theatre project, Qinglong Group developed dedicated connectors for the "Chinese Red Lantern" shape, using laser scanning positioning to ensure precise alignment of thousands of connection points. This differentiated connection design both ensures structural safety and realizes the architectural design intent.
