The laying of fiberglass mesh in double-curved GRC panels is a key process for ensuring structural performance, differing significantly from traditional flat panels. Based on 28 years of curved GRC production experience, Qinglong Group has summarized three special process requirements—directional laying, layered reinforcement, and edge reinforcement—to ensure the safety and reliability of double-curved panels under complex loading conditions.
Directional laying adapts to the principal stress direction. Double-curved panels exhibit pronounced directionality in their loading, requiring fiber orientation to optimize reinforcement efficiency. In the Wuhan Han Show Theatre project, Qinglong Group determined the principal stress trajectories through finite element analysis and adopted robotic directional spraying technology, keeping the angle between the main reinforcement direction of the fiberglass mesh and the principal stress direction within 15°. Test data show that this directional laying increases the flexural strength of double-curved panels by 25% and reduces maximum deflection by 30%. For areas with larger Gaussian curvature, a radial mesh layout is adopted to effectively disperse stress concentration.
Layered reinforcement controls panel thickness uniformity. Curvature differences across different parts of double-curved panels make thickness control difficult. Qinglong Group adopts a two-stage laying process of "matrix layer + reinforcement layer": first spraying a 5mm thick matrix layer, laying the first layer of fiberglass mesh (10mm×10mm mesh), then spraying the middle layer, laying the second mesh (5mm×5mm mesh), and finally completing the surface layer. In the roof project of the Hainan International Convention and Exhibition Center, this process kept panel thickness deviation within ±1.5mm, far better than the industry standard of ±3mm.
Edge reinforcement prevents edge cracking. The edge stresses of double-curved panels are complex and require special strengthening treatment. Qinglong Group adds a densified mesh (3mm×3mm mesh) within 100mm around panel edges and adopts a U-shaped edge wrapping design. For cantilevered sections, additional 45° diagonal reinforcement ribs are added to improve shear resistance. Through these special processes, double-curved GRC panels maintain design freedom while ensuring foolproof structural safety.
