Storage of UHPC components in low-temperature environments (≤5℃) requires special attention to frost protection, moisture protection, and deformation prevention. Based on project experience in northern regions, Qinglong Group has summarized key points in four areas—temperature control, humidity management, stacking methods, and protective measures—to ensure that component performance does not degrade during storage.
Temperature control is the top priority. The storage environment temperature should be ≥5℃, and heating and insulation are required when temperatures fall below 0℃. In its Shenyang project, Qinglong Group used insulated sheds for storage, maintaining internal temperatures at 5-10℃. After components are removed from the curing kiln, they must cool slowly for 24 hours in an environment above 10℃ before being moved to the warehouse, avoiding cracks caused by sudden temperature changes.
Humidity management prevents freeze-thaw damage. Relative humidity should be controlled between 30%-60%; if too low, drying shrinkage may easily occur, and if too high, freezing may result. Qinglong Group uses dehumidifiers to control humidity and covers component surfaces with plastic film, which prevents dust while retaining moisture. Component moisture content is checked regularly to ensure it remains below 6%.
Stacking methods prevent deformation. Support timbers should be ≥100mm high, with a distance from walls of ≥500mm. The number of stacking layers should not exceed 6, and heavy items must not be placed on lighter ones. Qinglong Group uses custom-made special racks to ensure components bear load evenly. Stacking conditions are checked regularly and adjusted promptly. With these measures, UHPC components can safely get through the winter.
