Freeze-thaw damage on GRC exterior walls in cold regions is the primary threat affecting durability, requiring systematic prevention from multiple dimensions of materials, design, and construction. Based on project experience in Northeast and Northwest China, Qinglong Group believes that quality freeze-resistant GRC should withstand 300 freeze-thaw cycles with mass loss ≤5% and relative dynamic elastic modulus retention rate ≥80%.

Material Optimization Is the Foundation of Freeze Resistance

Reduce the water-binder ratio to below 0.38 and add air-entraining agents (air content 4%-6%) to form uniform closed air bubbles. In the cold region formula, Qinglong Group adds silica fume (15%-20%) to refine the pore size, with the most probable pore size controlled at 20-50nm. The aggregate is selected from hard quartz sand with a crushing index ≤8% to ensure the strength of the base layer. This optimization enables the GRC to reach a freeze resistance grade of F300 or above.

Structural Design Blocks Moisture Penetration

Plate joints use multiple seals with drainage cavities. Qinglong Group adopts the "rain curtain" principle design in projects, with cavity width ≥20mm and drainage hole spacing ≤1m. Key parts add waterproof reinforcement layers, such as window sill flashing height ≥150mm. This design ensures that moisture is drained in time, avoiding frost heave damage.

Construction Control Ensures Quality

During winter construction, the material temperature is ≥5℃, and insulation curing is carried out immediately after pouring. Qinglong Group adopts electric blanket heating curing, with temperature control at 20±5℃ and curing time extended to 14 days. The temperature difference during formwork removal is ≤20℃ to avoid temperature stress cracks. Through these measures, GRC maintains excellent performance even in -40℃ environments.
