The wind pressure deformation performance of GRC curtain walls is a key indicator of their resistance to wind loads, directly relating to the safety of curtain walls on high-rise buildings and in typhoon-prone regions. Based on 28 years of engineering practice, Qinglong Group has established a comprehensive testing system incorporating laboratory testing, on-site testing, and digital simulation to ensure that GRC curtain walls exhibit controllable deformation and reliable safety under wind pressure.
Laboratory static wind pressure testing is the fundamental step. In accordance with the GB/T 21086 Curtain Wall standard, positive and negative wind pressure loads are applied using specialized testing equipment. The Qinglong Group testing center is equipped with a 300㎡ large-scale curtain wall testing system capable of simulating wind pressures of ±6000Pa. In the Shenzhen Pingshan High-tech Zone Comprehensive Service Center project, we applied loads step by step to GRC test specimens and monitored deflection changes, ensuring that under 1.5 times the design wind pressure, the maximum deflection of panels does not exceed 1/250 of the span and residual deformation is less than 10%. This testing provides reliable data support for curtain wall design.
Dynamic wind-induced vibration testing simulates actual wind environments. Tests are conducted in wind tunnels using aeroelastic models to analyze the dynamic response of curtain walls under fluctuating wind pressure. In cooperation with the Tongji University wind tunnel laboratory, Qinglong Group carried out wind-induced vibration testing on the "Chinese Red Lantern"-shaped GRC curtain wall in the Wuhan Han Show Theatre project, controlling wind-induced vibration within allowable limits by adjusting panel thickness and stiffening rib layout. Test data showed that the optimized curtain wall had an acceleration response of less than 0.2g under wind pressure occurring once every 50 years.
On-site non-destructive testing verifies actual performance. Laser displacement sensors are used to measure the deformation of installed curtain walls under wind pressure. In the roofing project of the Hainan International Convention and Exhibition Center, the Qinglong team deployed monitoring points during typhoon season to record wind pressure deformation data in real time for the 120,000-square-meter wave-shaped roof. Monitoring results showed that under a maximum instantaneous wind pressure of 1200Pa, the maximum deformation of the panels was only 3.2mm, far below the design limit. This on-site testing provides empirical evidence for the long-term safety of the curtain wall.
Digital simulation assists performance prediction. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is used to analyze wind pressure distribution, combined with finite element analysis to calculate stress and strain. In the translucent UHPC project at Shanghai Century Plaza, Qinglong Group used BIM models for wind pressure simulation, optimizing the panel segmentation scheme and connection point layout. This digital testing method enables the wind pressure deformation performance of curtain walls to be predicted and optimized at the design stage.
