Temperature stress control in large-area GRC curtain walls is a key design challenge, directly affecting the safety and durability of the curtain wall. Based on practical experience from multiple super-large GRC curtain wall projects (such as the 120,000 ㎡ roof of Hainan International Convention and Exhibition Center and the 30,000 ㎡ curtain wall of Shenzhen Pingshan High-tech Zone), Qinglong Group has effectively solved temperature stress problems through rational joint design, optimized connection nodes, and material selection.
Joint design is the primary measure for releasing temperature stress. Qinglong Group controls the expansion joint spacing of GRC curtain walls at 12-15 meters based on climate conditions, curtain wall color, and structural form. In Hainan's high-temperature and high-humidity environment, joint width is calculated and determined according to temperature deformation, typically 20-30mm. The joints are filled with elastic sealant, which both ensures sealing and allows deformation. In the Shenzhen Yirui Biotechnology Building project, optimizing the jointing scheme reduced temperature stress by 40%.
The design of connection nodes is crucial. Qinglong Group adopts a three-dimensional adjustable connection system that allows panels to undergo slight displacements during temperature changes. In the Wuhan Hanxiu Theater project, the slotted hole design of the connectors provides ±5mm of adjustment, effectively releasing temperature stress. Meanwhile, elastic gaskets are installed at supports to avoid stress concentration caused by rigid contact.
Material selection affects the magnitude of temperature stress. Qinglong Group improves the crack resistance of GRC by incorporating polypropylene fibers. Cement content is controlled in the mix proportion design to reduce hydration heat and drying shrinkage. In the Yangshengtang Pharmaceutical Hangzhou Industrial Park project, this material optimization reduced the thermal expansion coefficient of GRC panels to 8×10⁻⁶/℃, reducing temperature deformation.
Monitoring and early warning serve as a backup means of temperature stress control. Qinglong Group embeds temperature sensors in key projects to monitor panel temperature changes in real time. When the temperature gradient exceeds the set value, an early warning is issued to guide maintenance work. Through systematic temperature stress control, large-area GRC curtain walls can safely cope with various climate conditions.
