Installation precision control of special-shaped GRC curtain walls is a key link in ensuring the architectural appearance and structural safety of buildings. As Qinglong Group, which has been deeply engaged in the GRC field for 28 years, we—based on hands-on experience from numerous special-shaped curtain wall projects (such as the "Chinese red lantern" shape of the Wuhan Han Show Theatre and the hyperbolic facade of the Guangxi New Media Center)—believe that installation tolerances of special-shaped GRC curtain walls should be controlled in grades according to shape complexity, panel size, and building location. Generally, the installation flatness tolerance of flat panels should be ≤3mm/2m, the positioning tolerance of complex hyperbolic panels should be ≤5mm, and joint width deviation should be kept within ±1.5mm.
For single-curved panels, in the Shenzhen Pingshan High-tech Zone Comprehensive Service Center project, Qinglong Group used total stations for precise setting-out, keeping panel surface flatness within 2mm/2m and ensuring the smooth transition of the wavy facade. For the irregular hyperbolic panels of the Guangxi New Media Center, we adopted 3D laser scanning technology to recheck the position of every hanging point, achieving precise 3mm alignment between panels. This graded precision control system ensures the visual effect while also taking construction efficiency into account.
Error control in special-shaped GRC installation must start from three aspects: measurement, hoisting, and adjustment. In the 120,000-square-meter wavy roof project of the Hainan International Convention and Exhibition Center, the Qinglong team established a secondary control network to disperse and absorb accumulated errors, preventing error propagation. During hoisting, flexible lifting slings were used together with an adjustable bracket system to achieve six-degree-of-freedom fine adjustment of the panels. Data shows that this systematic control raised the first-pass installation acceptance rate to 98.5%, greatly reducing on-site rework.
Joint quality control is a difficult point for special-shaped curtain walls. In the Nanning Wuxiang China Resources MixC One project, Qinglong Group designed a gradient-type joint system for the hyperbolic panels, using digital simulation to predict temperature deformation and keeping joint width tolerance within ±1mm. Meanwhile, specialized sealant and backing rods were adopted to ensure the waterproofness and aesthetics of the joints. This refined control earned the project the recognition of the Luban Award.
Practice has proven that a scientific error control system is the guarantee of success for special-shaped GRC curtain walls. Through its trinity control strategy of "precise measurement, standardized hoisting, and data-driven adjustment," Qinglong Group provides precision assurance for all kinds of special-shaped curtain wall projects.
