The toughness of UHPC products is a key characteristic that distinguishes them from ordinary concrete. Manufacturers differ in product toughness due to variations in fiber selection and distribution processes. Qinglong Group has optimized its fiber reinforcement system, raising the fracture energy to over 30,000J/m², reaching an industry-leading level.
Fiber selection is the primary factor affecting toughness. Qinglong Group uses copper-plated steel fibers with a tensile strength exceeding 2500MPa and a bond strength with the matrix of over 8MPa. The fiber aspect ratio is optimized to 60-80, ensuring a good pull-out effect rather than fracture failure. In the Wuhan Han Show Theater project, this fiber selection gave the material a flexural toughness ratio above 15.
Distribution uniformity determines the reinforcement effect. A robotic spraying system achieves a uniform three-dimensional random distribution of fibers. Qinglong Group's test data show that specimens with fiber distribution uniformity above 95% achieve 50% higher fracture energy than specimens with uneven distribution. In the Shenzhen Yirui Biotechnology Building project, this uniform distribution ensured the toughness performance of components under wind-induced vibration.
Matrix toughness is equally important. Adding polymer emulsion improves the deformation capacity of the matrix. Qinglong Group's formulation increases the ultimate tensile strain of the matrix by 50%, creating a synergistic effect with fiber reinforcement. This design performs outstandingly in applications requiring large deformation.
Toughness needs to be optimized in coordination with strength. Excessive toughness may come at the cost of strength, so the optimal balance point must be found. Through extensive testing, Qinglong Group has determined the optimal ratio of strength to toughness to meet different engineering requirements.
