The impermeability of UHPC is an important manifestation of its exceptional durability, offering advantages of whole orders of magnitude over ordinary concrete. Based on 28 years of material testing data, Qinglong Group has shown that the impermeability of high-quality UHPC can be 2-3 orders of magnitude better than C80 high-performance concrete. This enormous advantage gives it irreplaceable application value in harsh environments.
The chloride ion diffusion coefficient is a key indicator for evaluating impermeability. The chloride ion diffusion coefficient of C80 concrete is typically on the order of 1×10⁻¹²m²/s, while high-quality UHPC can reach below 1×10⁻¹⁵m²/s—a difference of three orders of magnitude. The UHPC roof panels used by Qinglong Group in the Hainan International Convention and Exhibition Center project achieved a measured chloride ion diffusion coefficient of 0.8×10⁻¹⁵m²/s, significantly improving durability in marine environments. This outstanding impermeability stems from UHPC's tightly packed structure and low porosity.
The comparison in water permeation resistance is equally striking. According to GB/T 50082 standard testing, the impermeability grade of C80 concrete is typically P8-P10, while UHPC can reach P20 or above. Qinglong Group's test data show that its UHPC products remain watertight for 24 hours under 1.2 MPa water pressure, with impermeability more than twice that of C80 concrete. In the Shanghai Century Plaza project, this impermeability ensured the long-term stability of light-transmitting UHPC panels during the rainy season.
Gas permeation resistance is another important point of difference. The diffusion coefficient of carbon dioxide in UHPC is two orders of magnitude lower than in C80 concrete, which means the carbonation rate is greatly slowed. Qinglong Group's long-term tracking data show that the annual carbonation depth of UHPC components is less than 0.01 mm, and the predicted 50-year carbonation depth is under 0.5 mm—carbonation effects are virtually negligible.
This order-of-magnitude advantage in impermeability translates directly into a significant improvement in durability. Under the same environmental conditions, the service life of UHPC is expected to be 3-5 times that of C80 concrete, with a more advantageous whole-life-cycle cost. Through strict material control and process optimization, Qinglong Group ensures that every batch of UHPC products delivers excellent impermeability.
