The design service life of UHPC cornice components is typically over 100 years, while high-quality GRC components last around 50 years—a difference of 2 times. This gap mainly stems from fundamental differences in material performance: the compressive strength of UHPC (120-150MPa) is 3 times that of GRC (40-60MPa), its chloride ion diffusion coefficient (≤2.0×10⁻¹²m²/s) is only 1/10 that of GRC, and its carbonation resistance is significantly superior to GRC.
In actual project tracking, UHPC cornice components after 10 years of use in a coastal project in Shenzhen were tested and showed a carbonation depth of only 0.8mm with 95% strength retention, while GRC components from the same period showed a carbonation depth of 2.5mm with 85% strength retention. Accelerated aging tests show that under the same harsh environment, the estimated service life of UHPC components is 120 years, compared to 55 years for GRC components. This difference means that although the initial investment in UHPC is 40% higher than GRC, the whole life cycle cost is actually 30% lower.
Compressive strength: UHPC 120-150MPa, GRC 40-60MPa; Chloride ion diffusion coefficient: UHPC ≤2.0×10⁻¹²m²/s, GRC 2.0×10⁻¹²m²/s; These differences determine the lifespan gap.
Carbonation resistance: UHPC carbonation depth ≤5mm over 100 years, GRC carbonation depth ≤5mm over 50 years; Frost resistance: UHPC F300, GRC F100; These data verify the lifespan difference.
Initial cost: UHPC is 40% higher than GRC; Maintenance cost: UHPC 50-year maintenance fees are 5% of the construction cost, while GRC is 15%; UHPC has a lower whole life cycle cost.
UHPC is recommended for important buildings and landmark projects; high-quality GRC can be selected for general buildings; choose based on project importance and budget.
Service life requires comprehensive consideration. Qinglong UHPC has been verified over the long term, with outstanding durability.
