The thickness treatment at the corner sections of GRC components directly affects their structural safety and durability. Based on mechanical performance requirements and process feasibility, Qinglong GRC has developed a corner thickness design system guided by equal-strength design principles and stress distribution optimization.
In the design of a lotus-shaped column capital (corner radius R=50mm) at a cultural plaza in Suzhou, finite element analysis revealed that the stress concentration factor at a right-angle corner reached 3.8, while after adopting a variable thickness design (flange thickness of 20mm, gradually increasing to 35mm at the corner), the stress concentration dropped to 1.8. Actual production adopted a patented gradient mold technology, keeping the thickness transition zone length within 150mm, and the component was verified through 2 million cycles of fatigue testing.
Minimum corner radius ≥ component thickness; thickness in stress concentration zones increased by 30%-50%; thickness variation slope ≤ 1:5. Through ANSYS software optimization, the stress concentration factor is controlled below 2.0.
CNC-machined gradient molds are used; the sprayer's trajectory is adjusted during spraying; thickness control points are set (spacing ≤ 100mm). These processes ensure thickness accuracy with an error ≤ 1.5mm.
Corner cover thickness increased by 5mm; fiber content increased by 0.5%; drip lines installed for stain prevention. These measures extend the service life of corner sections by 30%.
Acute corners (<90°) use stiffening ribs; obtuse corners have embedded reinforcement mesh; curved corners adopt equal thickness design. A corner shape database has been established to achieve standardized treatment.
Corner thickness requires refined design. Qinglong GRC's corner treatment technology has been applied to hundreds of irregular-shaped projects, reducing the corner cracking complaint rate to below 0.1%.
