The aging resistance (durability) of GRC is crucial, as it directly determines its service life and maintenance costs. Under normal use conditions, high-quality GRC has an expected service life of over 50 years. Through material optimization and process innovation, Qinglong GRC products have achieved industry-leading aging resistance.
In a seaside hotel project in Hainan, Qinglong GRC components have withstood 8 years of harsh conditions featuring high temperature, high humidity, and high salinity. The latest test data show: a carbonation depth of only 0.2mm and a strength retention of 92%, fully within the allowable range of the standards. Laboratory accelerated aging tests show that after 300 freeze-thaw cycles, the mass loss rate is <1% and the relative dynamic elastic modulus is >90%, far exceeding national standard requirements. This outstanding aging resistance stems from material optimization: the use of zirconia-type alkali-resistant glass fiber (ZrO₂ content ≥16.5%) and low-alkalinity sulphoaluminate cement (alkali content ≤0.6%) ensures long-term durability at the material level.
High-quality GRC has a carbonation depth of less than 1mm over 50 years, which is almost negligible. This is due to its dense microstructure, which effectively blocks the penetration of carbon dioxide.
In marine environments, GRC exhibits excellent resistance to chloride ion attack. Its chloride ion diffusion coefficient is below 2.0×10⁻¹²m²/s, only 1/100 that of ordinary concrete.
After 300 rapid freeze-thaw cycles, the mass loss rate is <1% and the dynamic elastic modulus retention is >90%. In projects in severely cold northern regions, this performance ensures that components remain intact even after enduring harsh winters.
Tracking of projects in use for more than 15 years shows stable performance. Testing of GRC that has been in use for 12 years in a Shanghai project showed a strength retention of 90% and a carbonation depth of 1.2mm. These long-term data provide empirical support for durability assessment.
The aging resistance of GRC has been verified through rigorous experiments. Choosing high-quality products and proper installation can provide long-lasting protection for buildings.
