While UHPC is developing rapidly, it also faces challenges from multiple aspects. These challenges come from various dimensions including technology, cost, market, and standards, requiring joint efforts from the industry to overcome.
In terms of technical challenges, issues such as high raw material costs, complex production processes, and difficult quality control restrict industry development. Through 28 years of technological accumulation, Qinglong has solved these problems to a certain extent, but the overall technical level of the industry still needs improvement. In terms of cost challenges, UHPC is priced at 10-15 times that of ordinary concrete, and this price gap limits its promotion and application. In terms of market challenges, design institutes, construction contractors, and owners have insufficient awareness of UHPC and lack application experience, which affects the pace of promotion. In terms of standards challenges, relevant standards and specifications are incomplete; design methods, construction procedures, and acceptance criteria need further improvement.
Raw material costs are high, with fibers and chemical admixtures accounting for a large proportion. Production processes are complex and equipment investment is substantial. These factors keep UHPC prices persistently high, requiring cost reduction through technological innovation and economies of scale.
Stakeholders such as designers, contractors, and supervisors have insufficient understanding of UHPC properties and lack application experience. Technical training and standards promotion need to be strengthened to raise industry awareness.
Design codes, construction procedures, acceptance standards, and other specifications need further improvement. The pace of standards development needs to be accelerated to provide technical support for industry development.
Professional talent is scarce, particularly in research and development, design, and construction. Talent cultivation needs to be strengthened to provide personnel support for industry development.
Facing these challenges, the industry needs to work together, promoting the healthy development of the UHPC industry through measures such as technological innovation, standards improvement, and talent cultivation.
