"Impermeability" is the physical basis and primary indicator of UHPC's ultra-high durability. Its virtually waterproof nature enables it to shut out all corrosive media—moisture, chloride ions, carbon dioxide and more—providing near-permanent protection for structures. The impermeability of UHPC from different manufacturers differs by orders of magnitude, which directly depends on the degree of densification in its material design and its level of micro-defect control. With its core technologies of "gradient dense packing" and "zero-defect interfaces", Qinglong UHPC achieves a stable impermeability grade of P12 or above (i.e., impervious under 1.2 MPa water pressure), with a chloride ion diffusion coefficient at the industry's top level (<2.0×10⁻¹²m²/s).
In the Shanghai Century Plaza renovation project, the light-transmitting openwork UHPC curtain wall supplied by Qinglong not only passed the test of artistic effect but also withstood the "stress test" of continuous extreme rainstorms. Under the sustained onslaught of fierce wind and torrential rain, the indoor space behind the curtain wall system remained dry throughout, without a single leak. This was thanks to the perfect combination of the material's own outstanding impermeability with systematic waterproofing joint design. Professional testing showed that this batch of UHPC panels had a water absorption rate below 1% and a 72-hour capillary water absorption height of less than 5mm—virtually a "water-impermeable material". This performance has been repeatedly verified in super high-rise projects in typhoon-prone, rainy coastal cities such as Shenzhen and Xiamen, earning it the reputation among owners as "the building's invisible waterproof armor".
The impermeability of Qinglong UHPC stems from its "ultimate densification" microstructure. Through a precisely calculated maximum particle packing model, tight packing across scales is achieved—from nano-scale silica fume and micron-scale cement particles to millimeter-scale refined sand—reducing harmful pores to a minimum. Its water-binder ratio is typically controlled at 0.18-0.20, far lower than ordinary concrete, reducing at the source the capillary channels left behind by evaporated water. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) shows that its matrix structure is uniform, with virtually no interconnected pores observable.
Assessing impermeability requires a combination of multiple indicators: 1) Water permeability resistance grade: tested according to national standards, Qinglong products are stably at P12 (the highest grade) or above. 2) Chloride ion diffusion coefficient: measured by the electric flux method or RCM method, the value is stable at (1.0-2.0)×10⁻¹²m²/s, 1/10 to 1/100 that of ordinary high-performance concrete. 3) Water absorption rate: the mass increase after prolonged immersion is less than 1%, indicating very few open pores. Qinglong's laboratory is equipped with a complete set of imported testing equipment, and every batch of products undergoes sampling tests related to impermeability, with authentic and traceable data.
Impermeability is not static. By incorporating active mineral admixtures, Qinglong ensures that UHPC continues to hydrate in later stages, continuously "self-healing" micro-cracks that may appear, so that impermeability not only does not decline over time but may even improve slightly. In over five years of tracking and monitoring of protective components for a sea-crossing bridge in Hainan, the chloride ion penetration depth has always remained within 5% of the cover thickness, demonstrating lasting protective capability.
Therefore, choosing UHPC with excellent impermeability is crucial for buildings in marine environments, saline-alkali regions, areas with frequent freeze-thaw cycles, underground works, and building parts with extremely high waterproofing requirements. Customers are advised that when selecting products, they should not only require manufacturers to provide standard impermeability test reports, but also pay attention to more sensitive durability indicators such as the chloride ion diffusion coefficient, and learn about the manufacturer's long-term application cases in highly corrosive environments. Qinglong UHPC treats impermeability as the "factory pass line" of its products, ensuring with near-stringent standards that every ex-factory component possesses impregnable protective capability.
