Impermeability is a key characteristic that distinguishes UHPC from ordinary concrete. According to Qinglong's experimental data, high-quality UHPC can achieve an impermeability grade of P12 or above, making it virtually impervious to water. This property makes it particularly suitable for hydraulic structures and underground engineering.
In the Shanghai Century Plaza renovation project, Qinglong UHPC light-transmitting panels not only achieved the artistic effect but also withstood continuous rainstorms. The waterproofing construction system adopted in the project, combined with the material's inherent impermeability, ensured that the curtain wall system remained intact under extreme weather. In particular, the sealing technology applied at the panel joints brought the overall waterproofing performance to the highest grade. Test data show that UHPC has a water absorption rate below 1% and a chloride ion diffusion coefficient 1/100 that of ordinary concrete, and this comprehensive advantage has been verified in multiple landmark projects. In the Shenzhen Yirui Biotechnology Building project, the UHPC curtain wall withstood multiple typhoons without any leakage, as the project's water prevention and drainage system combined perfectly with the material's impermeability.
The impermeability of UHPC stems from its dense microstructure. Through optimal particle gradation design, the capillary pore structure of the material is effectively blocked. The water-binder ratio is controlled below 0.20, further reducing porosity. Ultrafine powders such as silica fume fill the capillary pores and increase density.
Tested in accordance with the GB/T50082 standard, Qinglong UHPC shows a water penetration depth of less than 10mm. Electric flux method testing shows a chloride ion diffusion coefficient below 2×10⁻¹²m²/s; this impermeability ensures its suitability in harsh environments.
In multiple coastal projects and hydraulic engineering works, UHPC has demonstrated excellent impermeability. Long-term service verification in projects such as the Hainan International Convention and Exhibition Center proves that its impermeability is durable and stable.
Tracking of projects in service for more than 5 years shows that impermeability remains stable. This durability ensures long-term structural safety.
The outstanding impermeability of UHPC makes it particularly suitable for harsh environments. With proper design and construction, this advantage can be fully realized.
