Precautions for Storing UHPC Components in Low-Temperature Environments: A Complete Guide to Thermal Insulation, Moisture-Proofing and Protection

Storing UHPC components in low-temperature environments (usually referring to ambient temperatures ≤5°C) can easily lead to problems such as slow strength development, surface frost cracking, and moisture-induced mildew due to excessively low temperatures and humidity changes, requiring targeted thermal insulation, moisture-proofing, and protective measures. As a UHPC manufacturer with nationwide business coverage, Qinglong has accumulated extensive storage experience in multiple low-temperature environment projects in northern China and established a comprehensive low-temperature storage management system.

Temperature control of the storage environment is the core; components must be kept in a positive-temperature environment. Qinglong stores UHPC components in constant-temperature warehouses, with temperatures controlled at 5-15°C and equipped with oil-fired or electric heating equipment that automatically activates heating when the ambient temperature falls below 5°C to prevent components from freezing. For temporary storage at construction sites, insulated sheds are erected (using a color steel panel + insulation cotton structure) with heaters or underfloor heating installed inside to ensure the temperature inside the shed remains ≥5°C. In a municipal landscape project in Northeast China, Qinglong's UHPC components were stored in insulated sheds under outdoor conditions of -20°C, with the internal temperature maintained at 8°C, and the components showed no frost cracking whatsoever. Meanwhile, warehouses or insulated sheds must maintain good ventilation and avoid abrupt temperature rises and drops (daily temperature difference ≤10°C) to prevent thermal stress cracks on component surfaces.

Moisture-proof and waterproof measures prevent components from dampness-induced mildew and strength decline. In low-temperature environments, air humidity is relatively high, and condensation easily forms on component surfaces, causing surface sanding and mildew. Moisture-proof mats (polyethylene film + extruded board) are laid on the floors of Qinglong's storage warehouses, and component bottoms are raised on timber battens (height ≥100mm) to keep away ground moisture; dehumidifiers are installed in the warehouses to control relative humidity at 60-70%. For components temporarily stored outdoors, surfaces are covered with waterproof thermal insulation film (inner waterproof film + outer insulation cotton), with edges pressed down by heavy objects to prevent rain and snow water from seeping in. In a commercial complex project in Xinjiang, UHPC components encountered snowfall during outdoor storage; protected by the waterproof insulation film, the component surfaces showed no dampness or freeze-thaw damage, and strength developed normally.

Proper stacking methods prevent components from compression deformation and edge/corner damage. Qinglong follows the principle of "classified stacking, layered support, and avoiding squeezing": similar components are stacked together, and components of different specifications are placed separately for easy management and retrieval; flat panel components are stacked horizontally with a stacking height ≤3 layers, timber batten supports placed between layers (spacing ≤1.5m) with battens vertically aligned to avoid bending deformation; linear and special-shaped components are stored vertically and fixed with dedicated brackets, and the contact points between brackets and components are wrapped with rubber pads to prevent edge wear. In a residential project in Hebei, Qinglong's UHPC decorative lines were stored on vertical brackets with no deformation or damage, ensuring the decorative effect after installation. In addition, aisles (width ≥1.2m) must be reserved when stacking components to facilitate inspection and transport and avoid damage caused by secondary handling.

Regular inspection and maintenance ensure component storage quality. Qinglong has established a regular inspection system during storage: temperature and humidity in warehouses or insulated sheds are monitored daily and component conditions recorded; appearance inspections are conducted weekly, focusing on checking for cracks, dampness, mildew, and other issues, with any problems addressed promptly. For components stored for more than 1 month, regular water spraying for moisture retention is performed (water temperature ≥10°C) to prevent cracking caused by surface water loss and drying. In an airport project in Inner Mongolia, UHPC components were inspected after 2 months of storage and showed no quality issues, with stable performance after installation.

Storage management in low-temperature environments is a critical link in ensuring the quality of UHPC components. Adhering to the principle of "prevention first, full-process control," Qinglong integrates thermal insulation, moisture-proofing, and protective measures into the entire storage process, ensuring that components maintain good performance and appearance even in low-temperature environments. For projects in low-temperature northern regions, choosing a manufacturer with low-temperature storage experience and management capabilities is key to smooth project progress. With 28 years of industry experience and a comprehensive storage system, Qinglong provides reliable component storage solutions for every low-temperature environment project, ensuring that UHPC components maintain excellent quality in any environment.
