UHPC prices vary significantly across manufacturers, and a proper understanding of the root causes of these differences is key to product selection — in 2024, China's domestic UHPC market has shown a pattern of “quality determines price, service drives premium,” with quotes from different manufacturers differing by 30%–50% or even more, the result of a combination of multiple factors.
The core differences stem from product quality and technical strength. High-quality UHPC manufacturers use raw materials such as high-strength cement, high-purity fine aggregates, and premium steel fibers, combined with precise formulation ratios and advanced production processes, so that core product performance is stable and up to standard. For example, Qinglong UHPC products achieve a compressive strength of over 150MPa and a flexural strength of ≥25MPa, and have passed multiple authoritative tests; their raw material and production process costs are relatively high, so their prices naturally fall within a reasonable range. Some small manufacturers, in order to cut costs, may use ordinary cement, inferior aggregates, or reduce steel fiber content, making product performance difficult to guarantee, though their prices are relatively low.
The completeness of the service system pushes up price differences. Manufacturers with full-chain service capabilities, such as the integrated services provided by Qinglong covering detailed design, manufacturing, construction and installation, and after-sales maintenance, need to invest dedicated teams and resources, with service costs factored into their quotations. Such manufacturers can effectively avoid coordination problems during project implementation, saving customers time and labor costs; the “service premium” included in their prices carries high value. Manufacturers that only provide product manufacturing lack subsequent service support and quote relatively low prices, but customers must coordinate design, construction, and other stages themselves, so hidden costs may increase.
Production scale and brand effect influence price positioning. Large manufacturers such as Qinglong have an annual production capacity of 600,000 square meters; large-scale procurement and production can lower unit costs, while the reputation and credibility accumulated by the brand give their prices a certain brand premium. Although such manufacturers' prices are relatively higher, product quality and delivery capability are more assured. Small manufacturers have limited production scale, higher procurement costs, and lack brand influence; they often compete for market share with low prices, but their supply stability and quality control capabilities are weaker.
The degree of customization and project suitability intensify price differentiation. UHPC products with complex shapes or special performance requirements require manufacturers to invest in R&D, custom molds, and process adjustments, making price differences even more pronounced. In the translucent UHPC project at Century Plaza on Nanjing East Road in Shanghai, Qinglong achieved an artistic effect through the complex craftsmanship of manually inserting light-guide rods in an embroidery-like manner, so its quotation naturally differs significantly from that of standard products. Standardized products, with their mature production processes, show relatively small price differences between manufacturers.
The price differences between UHPC manufacturers are essentially a reflection of “value differences.” When making a choice, one must look beyond price to the essence, comprehensively evaluating product quality, technical strength, service capability, and project suitability, and avoid falling into the “low-price trap.” For major projects, only by choosing a manufacturer with reasonable prices and reliable quality can long-term cost-effectiveness be maximized.
