UHPC panels are widely used in building exterior walls due to their high density and excellent strength, but thermal insulation performance is a key consideration in their application. Compared with ordinary concrete panels, UHPC panels offer significant advantages in thermal insulation. Through scientific data comparison and optimization measures, energy-saving performance can be further improved. Drawing on project practices such as the Shenzhen Yirui Biotechnology Building, Qinglong analyzes the differences in thermal insulation performance and improvement solutions.
I. Thermal Insulation Performance Comparison Between UHPC Panels and Ordinary Concrete Panels
UHPC panels far surpass ordinary concrete panels in thermal insulation performance, with the core differences reflected in thermal conductivity and thermal resistance indicators. A conventional 30mm-thick UHPC panel has a thermal conductivity of 0.8-1.0W/(m·K) and a thermal resistance of ≥0.03m²·K/W; an ordinary concrete panel of the same thickness has a thermal conductivity of 1.5-1.8W/(m·K) and a thermal resistance of only 0.017-0.02m²·K/W, meaning UHPC panels deliver 40%-50% better insulation performance. Qinglong's test data show that a 25mm-thick UHPC panel, under a summer outdoor environment of 35℃, maintains an indoor surface temperature of 28℃, while an ordinary concrete panel of the same thickness reaches an indoor surface temperature of 32℃—a temperature difference of 4℃. In winter thermal insulation tests, the indoor-outdoor temperature difference of UHPC panels is 3-5℃ higher than that of ordinary concrete panels, demonstrating significant energy-saving effects. In addition, UHPC panels have stronger thermal stability, with a smaller coefficient of thermal expansion and contraction under temperature changes, reducing damage to the insulation layer caused by thermal stress.
II. Core Reasons for the Excellent Thermal Insulation Performance of UHPC Panels
The advantages in thermal insulation performance stem from the material formulation and structural characteristics. In terms of materials, UHPC adopts a low water-binder ratio (0.20-0.25) and dense forming technology, with a porosity of ≤3%, far lower than that of ordinary concrete (porosity 15%-20%), reducing heat transfer through pores; the addition of active admixtures such as ultra-fine silica fume and quartz sand forms dense hydration products, lowering heat conduction efficiency; some high-end UHPC panels incorporate lightweight insulating aggregates such as ceramic microspheres and floating beads to further reduce thermal conductivity. In terms of structure, UHPC panels have uniform thickness and smooth surfaces, reducing thermal radiation and convective heat exchange, whereas ordinary concrete panels have rough surfaces and numerous internal pores, which easily create thermal bridge effects that compromise insulation performance.
III. Optimization and Improvement Solutions for UHPC Panel Thermal Insulation Performance
Multi-dimensional optimization further strengthens the insulation effect. Material optimization: adding 5%-8% ceramic microspheres to the UHPC mix can reduce thermal conductivity by 15%-20%; Qinglong's dedicated insulation-type UHPC panels achieve a thermal conductivity as low as 0.7W/(m·K). Structural design: adopting a UHPC composite panel structure with a sandwiched insulation core (such as XPS board or rock wool) and a total thickness of 50-80mm can reduce thermal conductivity to below 0.3W/(m·K), improving insulation performance by more than 60%. Surface treatment: applying reflective insulation coatings with a reflectivity of ≥80% reduces solar radiation heat absorption and can lower surface temperatures by 5-8℃ in summer. Reserving an air layer during installation enhances convective insulation. In the Yangshengtang Pharmaceutical Hangzhou Industrial Park project, this composite solution enabled the UHPC curtain wall to achieve the Class I energy-saving standard.
IV. Testing of Thermal Insulation Performance and Application Recommendations
Rigorous testing ensures that insulation performance meets standards, while precise application enhances energy-saving benefits. A thermal conductivity tester is used to assess the insulation performance of UHPC panels, with sampling tests conducted on each batch to ensure compliance with design requirements; on-site testing uses the heat flow meter method to measure the heat transfer coefficient of components and verify actual insulation performance. Application recommendations: in hot southern regions, composite insulation-type UHPC panels are preferred to reduce cooling energy consumption; in cold northern regions, UHPC composite insulation panels are used to enhance winter thermal insulation; high-end buildings can combine BIM technology to simulate thermal performance and optimize UHPC panel thickness and installation methods. Through precise matching of application scenarios, Qinglong maximizes the insulation and energy-saving benefits of UHPC panels, providing reliable support for green, energy-efficient buildings.
