The curing process is a critical stage in shaping the performance of UHPC (Ultra-High Performance Concrete). The choice between steam-free curing and steam curing directly affects project quality, cost, and timeline. As a national high-tech enterprise with 28 years of UHPC production experience, Qinglong Group has precisely mastered the performance differences and applicable scenarios of the two curing methods through thousands of project practices.
The high strength and high density of UHPC depend on sufficient hydration reactions. Steam curing and steam-free curing have each formed their own performance advantages through different temperature and humidity control logics. Qinglong adopted the two curing processes respectively in projects such as the Yirui Biotechnology Building in Shenzhen and the Shanghai Astronomy Museum, accumulating detailed performance comparison data.
Steam curing, through constant-temperature curing at 40-90°C, accelerates the hydration of cementitious materials and the crystallization of hydration products, enabling UHPC's early strength to rise rapidly, with 7-day compressive strength reaching over 120MPa and 28-day strength generally exceeding 150MPa. Steam-free curing relies on natural or standard curing, with slower early strength development; the 28-day compressive strength is approximately 100-130MPa, but later-stage strength still has room for continued growth. Qinglong's dedicated steam-free formula can raise the 28-day strength to around 140MPa, narrowing the gap with steam curing.
Steam curing promotes dense packing of hydration products, reducing the porosity of UHPC to below 10%, with an impermeability grade of P12 or above and over 1,000 freeze-thaw cycles. Steam-free UHPC has a porosity of approximately 12%-15%, an impermeability grade of P8-P10, and 600-800 freeze-thaw cycles, meeting the durability requirements of most architectural decoration scenarios. In the Shanghai New World Nanjing East Road Century Plaza project, the density of steam-cured UHPC light-transmitting panels ensured the stability of light guide rod installation, while steam-free components performed well in standard decorative areas.
Steam-free curing requires no dedicated steam curing equipment and offers convenient on-site construction, making it particularly suitable for large-volume, irregular-shaped components and cast-in-place scenarios, with a more flexible construction timeline. Steam curing requires professional steam curing kilns or steam curing sheds, involving greater equipment investment, and is suited for batch production of factory-precast components with higher production efficiency. Qinglong's production base in Nanning, Guangxi is equipped with multiple steam curing production lines while also possessing mature steam-free construction technology, allowing flexible switching according to project needs.
Steam-free and steam-cured UHPC are not a matter of absolute superiority or inferiority, but rather technical choices adapted to different project needs. Steam curing is more suitable for high-end landmark projects with extremely high strength and density requirements, while steam-free curing holds greater advantages in cost control and construction flexibility. As a full-chain solution provider, Qinglong Group can customize the optimal curing solution for clients based on the project's performance requirements, construction conditions, and cost budget.
